Our philosophy is to buy directly from artisans at a fair value price where all production costs and materials are considered and paid for at a respectful rate. It is important to mention this since most hammocks sold in the US are made in China, or India, for less than $3.00 each, then are marketed at $19.99.

You will pay a little more for a YelapaPalapa hammock but will be heart warmed to know that most of the money went directly to the artisan and not to distributers and retail companies. Our price structure is the following:

For every dollar you spend on a YelapaPalapa product, 50% will go to the artisan, 30% will go into transportation costs, and 20% will be for YelapaPalapa. From our cut we need to cover advertising, administration, licence, and server costs. Our net profit from each dollar we receive is about 5%.

Why are we in business for such a small profit? Well, it’s not as bad as it sounds, during our peak months of the year we manage to move a huge inventory of an array of products which keeps us going.

The name YelapaPalapa is the joining of two words, Yelapa which is the name of a small town in the state of Jalisco Mexico and Palapa which is a small hut made from dried palms leaves. The name came to be when the company founder saw hammocks for sale in Yelapa in a small palapa.
